Reading Sufi Poetry in Andalusia (al-Shushtari)
This video was shot right outside the village of Exfiliana, close to Guadix, and known previously as "Shushtar", where the famous monistic sufi poet Abu'l Hasan al-Shushtari was from.
In honor of visiting this place, I decided to read one of his poems in translation by Lourdes Maria Alvarez.

Hello Filip, I really enjoy your videos and the content you're sharing, I want to thank you for that first.I just want to check about an information you shared, you said that "al-Shushtari is the most celebrated Sufi poet in all of history", an information that I never came across as a Sufi poetry reader, in fact, Ibn Arabi, Al-Hallaj, Ibn- Alfareth and Rumi are considered the most celebrated Sufi poets in my opinion especially in the Arab region, the middle east and central Asia. The style, the philosophical background and the quality of the language used by al-Shushtari compared to these poets is matchless. Sorry for the long comment, but just a thought that I wanted to share.
This horseshit, this is all Kurdistan & we were there since Noah’s ark landed on our mountain, Hallgurd.
Zoroastrianism at least better than islam.
Brilliant, as always.
Serbian here and sorry about my bad english. Some serbian etnologists explain vampires as a clash of pagan and christian culture in slavic world because pagan slavic people burn their deads but when christianity came they can't do it anymore , so early vampires were angry because they are not burnt and they wake from the graves to punish people because their souls are in some kind of captivity. Other thing in our ancient vampire culture was of course SEX but in brutal way. So , when young girl or widow get pregnant with basterd child their explanation were not about local men did it but vampires are fathers , and that bastard child in tradition was born without bones(boneless) and of in most of the cases they died , but in real life that was just exuse for killing a basterd baby because of the christian shame. In tration most of those the babies died but if they survive they become big heroes or prophets,... Same thing we can see in nordic tradition in a story about Ivar The Boneless.
I have really good poems to listen to (a banned poems), I would like to share it with you

The Arabic word khamr is often translated as "alcohol" in English, but it can also be defined as wine, liquor, or intoxicant. It comes from the verb khamara, which means "to shroud" or "to cloud". In Islam, khamr refers to any substance that can intoxicate the mind and impair a person's ability to control their actions.
I can easily see how beautiful this can be. The single most breathtaking moment of my life was having the honor of witnessing the light procession at the International Military Pilgrimage in Lourdes. It's a procession with tens of thousands of people ending at the square before the basilica, everyone carrying a candle. There's gospels being read, songs being sung, and during the refrain of Ave Maria everyone raises their candles. A sea of light, it's so awe inspiring

Thank you for sharing this video! Amazing work 🙏🙏 Respect for Rumi and his teachings MashaAllah!!!
Almost everything you showed from the book of Thomas is already in the current bible. It does not sound gnostic at all. For example we already know that Jesus is "the light of the world" John 8:12. so Thomas 77 fits Johns Gospel
As a Zoroastrian, I thank you for making this video. A lot of Iranians are converting to Zoroastrianism every day, but we can't make it official because the Islamic regime will execute us. As soon as possible, we will bring the monarchy back to Iran and revive our ancient religion. Long live the eternal fire of Zoroaster!
You can "prove" that God exists, but it’s quite a stretch to say that this philosophical God is the same one described in the Torah, Bible, or Quran.
The other one was better without the music

No music.... please.
exactly there is no accurate accounts about the origin of Arabic it could be more ancient than we know so far and the academic labeling of the languages is also what we know so far less than a century ago in biology there was millions of people taking Darwin thoughts seriously of animals popping out of certain plants remains and that was about a very precise science , knowledge of languages of 10 000 years ago can never be that precise unless you time travel
Westerners have the Christianity of common folk and the Buddhism of monks, if we had the Buddhism of common folk it wouldn't seem more sophisticated than Christianity.
Can you make a video explaining Isra Mi raj or Eid ul adha? Love your videos 🙏
Do you intentionally make so many vague, 'nuanced' statements that you don't say anything? If you need to do a deep dive with nuance, do it. This superficial fast pass is an insult.
you can reach almost any conclusion you want from any ancient religious text
Is this “gospel of mary “ meant to be written by the mother of Jesus? Because if so, to claim that this is the true position of Mother Mary is a gross oversimplification of the position of Mother Mary. She is the Ark of the covenant in it’s full glory. She is our greatest helper in Heaven. She is our example of Christian faith and our mother while on Earth. I can’t fathom how people can think so little of her just because she wasn’t “ the pope” or the physical hierarchy we expect. If you truly believe in this garbage book, it tells me you are truly sexist because you believe women are only valid when they sit in a seat of dominance.
Why don’t talk about when the Spaniards lived under Islamic oppression? It was so bad that the Christians had to run to the mountains and even then the Muslims would raid the villages every couple of months to torment the Christians. Even one time they stole the bells from the Santiago’s cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. How about you make a video about that? Yea Islam so nice, so poetic… Also so good at robbing, raping and murdering people all bc of their cult. Have you read the Quran and the Hadiths? They command them to kill Jews and Christians. Can you make a video about that???

HI Filip, I'm sure you know Qul Hu Wallah Faqath, is a reference to Surah Ihklas from the Quran. In my opinion Surah Ihklas and in general the Quran does a better job describing God. Due to reason below. Listening to the poem, it was beautiful but I can't help noticing some issues. One reoccuruing issue, perhaps due to mistranslation but I don't think so, is that Shushtari feels god is within everything. He writes "in the plants and in the minerals", god is not within these objects. He has created these things and encompasses them. One thing Shushtari has captured is that life itself is God. Only in the sense that God has blown his own spirit inside things to give it what we call life.
As a reform Jew myself…if Jesus did exist…he seems to have been simply a talented and passionate rabbi and his congregation followed his teachings which were apocalyptic perhaps but certainly not that radical…it was time and place that made things a mess…1st century Palestine was in turmoil…🙄🤦♂️ no comment from the 21st century on that…but he himself was definitely teaching from within tradition…but I do wonder if under Roman occupation, it seemed radical because the ordinary Jewish citizen under Rome had lost contact with their belief system and a rabbi like Jesus reignited some passion again…he was charismatic…and passionate…and the Sanhedrin saw him as destabilizing, especially vs Rome and the fragile peace they had…so they crucified him…which literally made a martyr of him…and only kicked over that lantern triggering a massive inferno that led to modern Christianity…
Theory is that's the whole reason the Jesus story was created, to give Temple centered followers of Judaism, a new way to worship after the Temple was destroyed by the Romans.
@@druidriley3163 Wow…very interesting theory…explains quite a bit…Jesus definitely was a threat if that was the reason…contemporary Reform Judaism isn’t looking for a savior but seeking salvation…so no individual person but ways to respect the Word to improve ourselves…since in Reform Judaism there really isn’t an afterlife as Christians describe it…really your rabbi sets the tone for your congregation…you follow your rabbi and their teachings…sure there is a national council but they set general limits…and are advisory…they also set seminary guidelines for teaching. A modern synagogue looks like church…with a few…err…differences…the ark in the front and the eternal flame of God…leading us…and obviously no cross…other than that…many feel the same…
He who see love, love manifest. For love is unconditional by nature. Everything else is an exchange 🤍
Yes but it all cam from India
I wonder how silly it feels to start with a blank page and say to yourself, I'm going to draw God
Indian religious practices reminds me of Greek practices. A God of eating, God of pooping, God of sleep, God laughter etc

Thanks!
To me, Spinoza's God sounds like a machine. Impersonal, deterministic, no teleology, acts only by necessity, affections, etc. This is a dumb God that is driven only by his blind instincts. Just a big universal computer. Not?
A misguided one. He has brought a lot of fitnah to this ummah.
Misleading information. Khamr from two trees grapes and dates, was understood to be najis, unclean. While anything that intoxicates is forbidden even a drop of it.
The problem with the story of Hypatia is that it's spun as a tale of Christians robbing the ancient world of one of it's greatest scientists due to religious bigotry when that wasn't the case at all. Hypatia, for all intents and purposes, was a Neoplatonist, which was a movement more concerned with astrology and matters that we today wouldn't consider scientific. And she wasn't killed because she was a pagan. She was killed because she was an associate of the Alexandrian prefect Orestes, who at the time was in a civil dispute with Cyril. Cyrils supporters murdered her because of her political connections, not her theological leanings.
You are wrong here. As it is also mentioned in the video Hypatia also was a specialist in mathematics, geometry and astronomy. 5:30 As for the people that murdered her we actually don't know what they had in their minds when they did this. They could have done it because they were told that she was a Pagan or a witch as I have to remind you that we talk about commoners of Alexandria in the fifth century AD.
@@user98344 ...Which she studied through a Neoplatonist lens. She didn't study maths, geometry and astronomy as well as Neoplatonism. She studied maths, geometry, and astronomy *because* she was a Neoplatonist. We don't properly have any of her own writings, so we have to go by other factors surrounding her. Hypatias father wrote a book on reading omens via bird behaviour, and one of her students asked for her comment on the interpretation of dreams, and he also drew on mystical Hermetic writings. All these factors point to Hypatia being a Neoplatonist first and foremost who studied everything else through that lens. And it's pretty clear that Hypatia's murder was the result of the power struggle between Orestes and Cyril. The context to her murder WAS that power struggle, and she just happened to get caught up in it as she was an adviser to Orestes. The sources make that quite clear with our closest source to the time, Socrates Scholasticus's account, saying it was the result of political conflict with the prefect ("fell a victim to the political jealousy which at the time prevailed")
@@onemoreminute0543 Yeah their methods aren't the stable any more but denouncing them because they don't work like us today is kinda problematic as you also ignore their even in today's standards contributions. It's like saying that the ancient Athenian democracy is not worthy of mention about our current democratic systems because they didn't have universal suffrage. For her murder now, can you tell me what was the dispute between Orestes and Cyril? In what they differ? Also, I specifically spoke about the mob that killed her and they thought, not the whole situation of Alexandria.
@@user98344 I don't mean to denounce her, but I do mean to contextualise her. There's a difference between acknowledging she was more of a 'proto-scientist' with a Neoplatonist understanding than a modern scientist who was on the brink of some new discovery. It's an important distinction to make. Basically, the dispute between Orestes and Cyril was over jurisdiction and authority in Alexandria. To grossly simplify, it began when Cyril got into a trivial dispute with the Jewish community there which led to him organising a pogrom. Orestes opposed this, as he saw the pogrom as infringing on his own jurisdiction and control over the city. Both Orestes and Cyril sent petitions to emperor Theodosius II in Constantinople to secure themselves at the expense of the other and, while they waited for the response, a deadlock ensued. Cyril attempted to reconcile with Orestes as a fellow Christian, but Orestes refused to give an inch. Cyril's supporters clashed with Orestes and his guards. This further escalated tensions, and rumours spread that Hypatia was influencing Orestes decision to not reconcile with Cyril, so she became the next target of street violence.
@@onemoreminute0543 You left out a lot of context and I don't know if you did it in purpose or not. Cyril was notoriously intolerant of different faiths or Christian denominations. That's a fact, you can find this in any video or writing about him or this specific time period. What you described is just an example of it. On the other hand, Orestes represented the more tolerant wing of Christians who wanted coexistence with other faiths. Now you can argue that the stances that they took were purely political in nature but firstly, that doesn't dismiss the fact that their differences were religious in nature and so their clash took a religious tone(at least openly). Secondly, as far I know the only source that says that this was purely political in nature is Socrates and we need to remember that he was a great critic of Cyril and he may have wanted to discredit him to the Christian community by claiming that he only acted in an political and selfish way instead of a Christian one because I doubt that he knew what Cyril had in mind. You also ignored for a second time that I talked specifically for the mob that killed her and not Cyril. This is a very important clarification we need to make in the conversation of if Hypatias death was religiously motivated or not because we don't know if Cyril actually ordered her death or not and even if he did you don't think that the word of the Bishop has religious significance?
You take sooooooo long
